La interacci\u00f3n entre la corriente el\u00e9ctrica y el campo magn\u00e9tico generado expulsa estas part\u00edculas, creando un\u00a0empuje constante\u00a0que propulsa la nave a velocidades mucho mayores que las alcanzadas por los motores qu\u00edmicos convencionales. Su impulso espec\u00edfico supera los\u00a0100 kil\u00f3metros por segundo, y la fuerza de empuje ronda al menos los 6 Newtons, con una potencia media operativa de aproximadamente 300 kilovatios en modo pulsado-peri\u00f3dico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La nueva tecnolog\u00eda no solo permite aumentar la velocidad de las naves espaciales,  sino que logra una eficiencia de combustible mucho mayor, reduciendo la cantidad necesaria hasta por diez veces con respecto a los sistemas qu\u00edmicos tradicionales. Este salto en velocidad es un cambio de paradigma en la tecnolog\u00eda espacial. Si bien los cohetes qu\u00edmicos seguir\u00e1n siendo vitales para superar la gravedad terrestre y alcanzar la \u00f3rbita inicial, el motor de plasma apunta a convertirse en el sistema principal para viajes interplanetarios. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin embargo, este prometedor desarrollo no est\u00e1 exento de desaf\u00edos. Algunas dudas persisten sobre la capacidad de producci\u00f3n en masa y el mantenimiento de las especificaciones prometidas, especialmente en contextos de presupuestos y pruebas a gran escala.
